National Citizen Corps is to harness the power of every individual through education, training, and volunteer service to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds.
Tazewell County Citizens Corps Council has adopted the same mission statement in order to bring awareness, education and training to the citizens of Tazewell County through this national movement and the dedication of Virginia Corps, an intiative of Governor Mark Warner to increase volunteerism and disaster awareness throughout the state of Virginia. Currently there are five programs under the National Citizen Corps umbrella: CERT, Medical Reserve Corps, Nieghborhood Watch, Fire Corps and Volunteers in Police Service.
