County Administrator James H. Spencer III 108 E. Main St The County Administrator is responsible for ensuring the decisions of the Board of Supervisors are followed and to ensure the county runs efficiently. Assistant County Administrator Patricia Green 108 East Main St Voice: 276-988-1204 The Assistant County Administrator is responsible for the county personnel and policy. If the County Administrator is unavailable it is the responsibility of the Assistant to perform the duties of the County Administrator. Accounting and Budgeting Director Arlene Matney 108 East Main St The Finance Manager ensures County's bills are paid and tracks the County department's budgets to ensure they are maintained within the budget. Payroll and Benefits Coordinator Pam Alford 108 East Main St Responsible for the administration of payroll, employee benefits programs, the Worker's Compensation program and other various human resource functions. Coordinates various employee benefit programs with the DSS, TCPSA and the Tazewell County Airport. Serves as part time secretary to the Tazewell County Transportation Safety Commission. Maintaining the Tazewell County Code of Ordinances, as well as records keeper of all Tazewell County Boards, Commissions and Authorities. Organizes meetings for the BOS. Prepare agendas, records and maintains written records of meetings and transactions from the BOS. Is a contact for the Board for purposes of correspondence and messages.

History Tazewell County adopted the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC) on September 1, 1973. The ordinance defines provisions of which shall control all matters concerning the construction, alteration, addition, repair removal, demolition, use, location, condemnation, occupancy, and maintenance of all building, and all other functions which pertain to the installation of all systems vital to all building and structures and their service equipment as defined by the Uniform Statewide Building Code, and shall apply to existing and proposed building or structures in the county. The building inspections office was established to enforce the provisions of the Building Official Code Administration (BOCA) National Building Code and the International Conference of Building Officials (ICABO)to provide minimum standards to insure the public safety, health and welfare insofar as they are affected by building construction and to secure safety to like and property from all hazards incident to the occupancy of the building, structures or premises. Mission The building inspectors office issues permits for work done in Tazewell County, the Towns of Tazewell, Richlands, Pocahontas, and Cedar Bluff. (The Town of Bluefield has a Building Official and all permitting is done through that office.)
