History
Tazewell County adopted the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC) on September 1, 1973. The building inspections office was established to enforce the provisions of the Building Official Code Administration (BOCA) National Building Code and the International Conference of Building Officials (ICABO)to provide minimum standards to insure the public safety, health and welfare insofar as they are affected by building construction and to secure safety to like and property from all hazards incident to the occupancy of the building, structures or premises.
Mission
The building inspectors office issues permits for work done in Tazewell County, the Towns of Tazewell, Richlands, Pocahontas, and Cedar Bluff. (The Town of Bluefield has a Building Official and all permitting is done through that office.)
