Town of Tazewell

The Town of Tazewell is a picturesque small town with pride in its rich cultural heritage. The original character of the community has been preserved with its tree-lined streets and lovingly restored storefronts, homes, and churches. Many businesses and residences in the Historic Downtown District are registered in State and National Historical records.
Tazewell is the county seat, the oldest town in the county (1800), and the geographic center of Tazewell County. For most of the 19th century, it was called Jeffersonville, in honor of Virginian Thomas Jefferson. The atmosphere can be sampled on foot or by car and the place to visit for tour information is the Tazewell Historical Society at the east end of Main Street or Town Hall at 201 N. Central Avenue.
